Technology from Exar Corporation has been selected by Calxeda to help improve its server power systems.

The technology selected is the XRP7724, a flash based memory that is said to improve power system optimisation with system firmware upgrades.

Our designers are using the XRP7724 for better power optimisation and configurability on our already low power systems, said Karl Freund, Vice President of Marketing at Calxeda.

“As the server market shifts to low power CPUs in higher densities, Calxeda has been instrumental in defining the requirements of this new server market.

“PowerXR enables Calxeda to dynamically control their power system, achieving 1/20th the power consumption of other programmable solutions on the market today.”

“The XRP7724 offers customers a smaller footprint solution compared to existing analogue solutions, making it ideal for next generation servers, said James Lougheed, Vice President, Power Management and AMS products at Exar.
