Hamamatsu Photonics introduce the S12060 series of Silicon Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs), designed for applications requiring high sensitivity in the near infrared region (NIR).
APDs are high sensitivity photodiodes with low terminal capacitance, whose internal gain mechanism enables reliable measurements to be taken even at very low light levels. The S12060 series feature a bias voltage with a low temperature coefficient meaning that a stable gain can be obtained over a wide temperature range. These APDs are supplied in compact, high reliability TO-18 packages. The S12060 series has a very high sensitivity in the NIR region, peaking at 800nm.
Due to their high-speed response, low power consumption and high sensitivity, these new detectors are ideal for a variety of applications including optical fibre communications, spatial light transmission and range finding.
