Leading electrical wholesaler, Newey & Eyre’s Shirley branch, in the West Midlands, has it celebrated reaching its 30th birthday this June.

Having originally opened its doors on the 15 June 1986, the popular branch, located on the Stratford Road, has since become the go-to place for electricians in the local and wider Solihull region seeking the latest in electrical innovation.

More so, it has proven a sound training ground for local talent. Over the years, 45 employees have joined the team in Shirley, with many moving on within Newey & Eyre and elsewhere. Dereck Upton, the branch’s original manager, has progressed through the business and is now in a sales executive role, supporting the wider Birmingham region.  Another previous manager, Frank Elkins has since become the MD of BSS Industrial following his stint at the Shirley branch.

A total of six ex-branch managers also attended the event, sharing their memories of their time running the branch and how it has evolved over the years.

To celebrate reaching such a significant milestone, the Shirley branch team recently held a special event with nibbles and refreshments, as well as a special raffle prize draw for staff and customers.

Andy Jones, branch manager at Shirley for over 15 years, comments: “We consider it a great achievement to reach this important milestone. Since opening shop back in 1986, the branch has evolved at a rapid rate; we’ve seen lots of new legislation, technological innovation and, of course, the arrival of the new energy world. What hasn’t changed, however, is our commitment to our wonderful customers who remain at the heart of everything we do.”

He adds: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our incredibly hardworking staff who have who have helped make this branch such as fantastic success – we look forward to another 30 years of even greater growth.”
