Mouser Electronics, will now stock an extensive range of Platinum RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) sensor elements from Heraeus Sensor Technology, including Thin Film Platinum RTDs, Glass and Ceramic Wire Wound RTDs.  Heraeus specilaises in micro-structured thin and thick-film systems using noble metals.

Platinum temperature sensors are a core capability of Heraeus Sensor Technology, operating in the temperature range from -196°C to 1000°C. They are ideal for automotive, process technology, life sciences and white goods sector applications. The company advises, the core enabling technology of the sensors are is a unique property of platinum, which increases resistance as temperature rises in, what is described as, a predictable linear behaviour. This is said to enable precise temperature recording across a greatly extended temperature range.

The company highlights that platinum’s resistance to temperature ratio is steeper than most metals, making it an excellent metal for accurate temperature sensors. It adds that with platinum sensing elements, the linearity of the resistance-temperature relationship is the most stable over a wide temperature range and can offer higher repeatability and shorter response times than other materials.
