Additional 8-bit MCUs have been added by Michrochip to the company’s eXtreme low Power (XLP) Enhanced Midrange Core PIC MCUs.

The new PIC16F1512/13 devices offer a mix of advanced digital and analogue peripherals, along with XLP for extended battery life required by many application areas.

These features are ideal for applications in the appliance, medical, consumer, automotive and many other markets.

The devices are said to offer active current down to 30µA/ MHz and sleep current down to 20nA. They integrate a 17 by 10-bit ADC, EUSART, I2C/SPI, two Capture Compare PWMs, 7KB Flash and 256B RAM.

They deliver increased analogue capability, including a 10-bit Analogue-to-Digital Converter (ADC) with hardware Capacitive Voltage Divider (CVD) support for implementing mTouch capacitive touch sensing.

Extra control logic enables automated touch sampling, which reduces software size and lowers CPU usage. They also provide an automatic control of guard-ring drive and a programmable sample-and-hold capacitance to better match larger touch or proximity sensors.

They are supported by the company’s standard development tools, including its free MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment.
