Kontron has announced that it has joined the Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand Ecosystem Program, the first open community of platform vendors, virtual application vendors, and service providers developing network functions virtualisation (NFV). This membership is a major milestone for Kontron to further enable service providers in their transition to highly efficient, high-performance NFV/SDN infrastructure environments.

Member companies have joined the CloudBand Ecosystem Program to accelerate market development for NFV and to progress NFV by sharing experiences, running tests, and developing use cases.

Kontron’s SYMKLOUD Series is a portfolio of high-performance, low-TCO converged hardware platforms that support staged migration to NFV/SDN.  By participating in the CloudBand Ecosystem Program, Kontron is both increasing the appeal of its hardware platform to service providers adopting CloudBand and increasing the third-party options available to service providers embracing its SYMKLOUD platform.

“We commend Alcatel-Lucent’s efforts to ensure the interoperability of NFV-related technology solutions from diverse—and even competing—vendors,” said Robert Courteau, executive V.P., Communications BU, Kontron.  “Service providers will benefit from the open exchange of information between vendors in the CloudBand Ecosystem Program, especially as their requirements for adaptability, performance, reliability, cost-efficiency and security continue to evolve.”

“As an experienced and forward-looking carrier-class cloud infrastructure provider, Kontron is a welcome addition to the CloudBand Ecosystem Program,” said Valerie Noto, director of the CloudBand Ecoisystem Program, Alcatel-Lucent. “Their participation increases the range of options for service providers  and validates the value of our open approach to both streamlining and de-risking service providers’ migrations to NFV.”
