At InnoTrans 2014, the transportation experts of Berner and Mattner Systemtechnik present a demonstrator which introduces the concept of an intuitive electronic interlocking operation control based on modern HMI technology. The demonstrator also shows new concepts for the future of mobile devices in terms of maintenance and diagnosis.

Currently, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) are the cause for new developments in many industries. Berner & Mattner works in operating concepts that implement gesture controls known from the operation of tablet PCs on touch screens used in an industrial environment. The electronic interlocking operation control presented at InnoTrans shows how an electronic interlocking can be operated without the need of a mouse or keyboard. The concept follows the user-intuitive push-button operation of earlier relay interlockings, which is associated with the electronic interlocking-typical easy command of complex topologies.

“With this demonstrator of an electronic interlocking operation control we are showing how the outcome of a possible HMI project with an interlocking manufacturer might look like. We have been deeply involved in the development of modern HMI solutions for nearly two years now. We have developed methods to realize operating concepts quickly and effectively together with the client. We combine the technical and railway specific requirements with the ergonomic benefits of touch displays”, explained Cengiz Genc, team leader transportation systems at Berner & Mattner Systemtechnik.
