Cubik Innovation is a Bristol based business who specialise in the design and development of electronic products. They work with everyone from local inventors and emerging businesses, to SME’s and global corporations, to help them realise their electronic design objectives and bring new and innovative products to market.

Established in 2012 by Managing Director, Paul Mullen, Cubik has experienced phenomenal growth in a short period of time. Having started out in a small office at the Bristol & Bath Science Park, Cubik now occupies 5500sqft of office space at Verona House in Fishponds, Bristol. Their in-house manufacturing facility puts them in a unique position where they can offer their customers services for all aspects of the product development lifecycle under one roof.

A brief history

In 1989, Paul set up his first business PaniK Technology which boasted an impressive client list and acquired an enviable reputation for delivering electronic design. In the wake of its sale in 2011, Paul was looking for a new venture that would offer the customer a complete product design service, from initial concept through to production. He took on a small room in the annexed Innovation Centre at the Bristol & Bath Science Park and came up with the concept of Cubik Innovation. A unique one-stop shop for the inventor or small business looking to develop electronic products.

By 2015, with a team of fourteen, Cubik began to win more, larger scale, projects. They became a success story amongst the local engineering community and were awarded Start Up Business of the Year at the BristolLive & BristolPost Business Awards.

In 2016, having outgrown the Science Park, Cubik relocated to Verona House in Fishponds, Bristol. The move enabled Cubik to double its manufacturing capability which now has a production team of eight skilled engineers and two semi-automated assembly lines. They produce 100’s of products a month ranging from single, small PCBs through to large industrial units containing, PCBs and wiring and mechanical components. It is now the biggest department in the business and has shipped over 20,000 products from its 2750sqft of manufacturing space to date.

Fast forward to 2019 and Cubik Innovation is a multiskilled team of over twenty-four technical and creative individuals offering services in electronic, mechanical, industrial design, software and many other design specialities.

In July, just four years after winning Best Start-Up Business, Cubik were awarded Best Manufacturing or Engineering Business at the BristoLive & BristolPost Awards.

Looking ahead

In August, Cubik Innovation announced that Sam Beard had been appointed as Operations Director. Sam made the move from his current role as Operations Manager to co-direct the business alongside Paul. Having two directors in place is a first in Cubik history and the appointment signifies an important change in the company structure and in securing the future of the business.
