Visitors to the Analog Devices  (ADI) stand at Embedded World 2018 (stand 629, Hall 4A) will see a wide range of demonstrations showcasing the company’s embedded-technology offerings that range from front end sensors and linear signal processing to microcontrollers to digital signal processing and associated cloud computing software and tools. ADI application engineers will be available at the stand to answer questions about design challenges involving the Industrial Internet-of-Things, Industry 4.0, the Smart Home, personalised healthcare and other topics related to embedded system design.

Demonstrations Analog Devices will showcase at Embedded World include:

Asset Health Detection & Monitoring

The latest additions to ADI’s range of MEMS accelerometers will feature in demonstrations of asset health monitoring – devices with ultra-low-power operation and ±200g detection range, are equally adept at monitoring damaging shocks to physical assets, or concussion and traumatic shock in human subjects.

Infrastructure Monitoring

– MEMS sensors will also feature in a demonstration of condition monitoring, determining the health of machinery and equipment by capture and analysis of vibration data. Anticipating diverse applications in the ‘smart factory’ and ‘smart home’, MEMS accelerometers form part of a complete FFT-based, low-power system based on the ADuCM4050. This ARM Cortex-M4F-core based MCU is ultra-low-power (under 40 µA/MHz) and features integrated power management. Also in the sensing domain, the world’s first wireless industrial sensor platform with a 40-year battery life.

Wireless Time Synchronisation

– Wirelessly networking the smart factory, ADI’s SmartMesh technology will form the centerpiece of a demonstration that will illustrate total reliability in industrial data communications, together with complete flexibility in sensor placement and ease of maintenance.

Wearable VSM Platform

– A healthcare/wellness demonstration will focus on the latest implementation of a wearable (watch-platform) chipset that measures ECG, heart rate, skin resistance, activity and temperature, for both fitness and clinical deployment – with comprehensive software and data-analysis support.

iCoupler® Isolation for Time Sensitive Networks

– Ethernet – in all its variations – is becoming more and more prevalent in demanding industrial environments. The ADI stand will feature a demonstration of Ethernet connectivity enhanced with robust galvanic isolation employing ADI’s iCoupler technology that maintains ultra-high bandwidth, and higher-level functionality such as TSN (time-sensitive networking). Extended networking examples will highlight capabilities in the video/medical domain as well as handling PROFINET traffic in a TSN context.

Smoke and Aerosol Detection

– Airborne particle and aerosol detection will be the subject of a novel sensing demonstration. ADI’s ADPD188BI solution – an LED detector and analog-front-end combination – enables air quality/contamination monitoring, including the capability of differentiating smoke (particulate) from steam (aerosol).

Silent Switcher II

– Among the other technology highlights on the stand will be a live demonstration of the spectrally “ultra-clean”, low-EMI capabilities of ADI’s Silent Switcher II voltage regulators.

In-depth Software Capabilities

– Illustrating the depth of ADI’s software capabilities, the demonstrations on the ADI stand will incorporate the company’s end-to-end wireless-sensor-to-cloud data handling, alongside a fully secure software stack for IoT data protection.

Learn from Analog Devices’ Experts

Analog Devices’ Product Marketing Manager Tom Weingartner will present a paper on, “Constrained Devices – Scaling Ethernet Technology for Time Sensitive Networks” during the Embedded World conference program. Weingartner is part of ADI’s Deterministic Ethernet Technology Group (formerly Innovasic), and will speak at 14:00 on Thursday 1st March, in Hall 3A, stand 610.

Analog Devices Systems Applications Engineering Manager Robin Getz will speak on, “Affordable RF tools, the ADALM-Pluto SDR”. This paper, from ADI and sponsored by distributor Mouser Electronics, looks at various RF problems (third harmonics of mixers, RF pollution, required RF filters), and considers how new innovated tools, and open source software can help measure and mitigate these issues. Robin Getz will speak at 9:30 on Wednesday 28th February, in Hall 3A, stand 610.

Embedded World 2018 takes place at the Nuremberg, Germany exhibition grounds, from 27th February to 1st March (details).
